OVERVIEW
Narrowing the gap between guests and their cruise memories
Sherlock is an internal, professional-grade mobile application designed to revolutionize the photography operations for a major cruise line. It serves as the critical link between a photographer's camera and the guest-facing photo purchasing platform (the "Hub App").
On a cruise ship, photographers capture thousands of photos daily across numerous locations and events. The traditional workflow of transferring memory cards, sorting photos on a desktop, and manually tagging guests is slow, inefficient, and prone to error. This delay directly impacts the guest experience and potential sales, as guests want to see their photos as quickly as possible.
The solution
Sherlock is a mobile-first solution that empowers photographers to manage their entire workflow directly from the "floor." The app allows them to:
- Set Up Sessions: Define the context of their shoot, including the event, capture category (e.g., "Portraits"), and specific location (e.g., "Atrium Lobby," "Deck 9").
- Tag Guests Instantly: After a shoot, the photographer can immediately find and tag guests to their photos by searching for them via Stateroom number or Last Name.
- Manage & Sync: The app provides a clear interface to manage photo batches (by party, session, etc.) and then syncs the tagged photos directly to the ship's central server.
This streamlined process ensures that photos are accurately tagged and made available for guests to view and purchase on their Hub App in near-real-time, dramatically improving operational efficiency and the passenger experience.
My role
As the UI/UX Designer, I was responsible for designing the complete mobile experience. This involved creating a high-fidelity, dark-mode interface suitable for various lighting conditions (from bright, open decks to dimly-lit evening events). My focus was on optimizing the core user flows—specifically guest tagging and data synchronization—to ensure the app is fast, intuitive, and reliable for photographers working in a fast-paced environment.
